Midlands is great for FinTech.

As well as nurturing and supporting those businesses already in Midlands, FinTech Midlands aims to develop an ecosystem that will help new FinTech companies start-up or scale-up. Ultimately, the goal is to make the Midlands a leading pillar in the global FinTech community.

The FinTech Midlands advisory panel is calling for participation from the local community and will consist of a group of: entrepreneurs, representatives from small, medium and large enterprises as well as tech suppliers, universities, schools and the public sector.

As the voice of FinTech in Midlands, we will empower FinTechs and financial services in Midlands to be successful on the world stage and ensure they are a major driver in the UK economy.

FinTech Midlands launched in April 2020 with the initial direction provided by Dr Wei Wu. Wei is an ambitious entrepreneur as well as a researcher in financial geography. He was academically trained in Birmingham and founded a digital start-up in his new home city.

The idea behind FinTech Midlands is to provide an independent voice for the FinTech industry, both within the Midlands and beyond, which will help to champion and maximise the potential for all businesses in this sector.

The Silicon Canal, Innovation Birmingham and the West Midlands Combined Authority all push for the development of local digital industries. The local cities are already specialist centres and are honing themselves to become the next big FinTech ecosystem.

We also believe that Birmingham will only transform into a successful FinTech Hub if it works with other regional hubs in the UK. All cities in the UK have their own traditions and advantages in different sectors of FinTech, as well as in other industries. Working together, we will make FinTech a stronger sector for the UK and we can make the UK home to the best FinTech ecosystem in the world.

We really like our logo. We feel that it encapsulates everything we are trying to achieve with FinTech Midlands.

The logo is the letter ‘M’, which stands for Midlands, and each point of the ‘M’ represents a different city on the Map of the UK: Bristol (Bottom Left), Manchester (Top Left), Leeds (Top Right), London (Bottom Right) with Birmingham in the middle connected to all these major cities.
